Project Overview
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aerem Environmental was engaged by Winstone Wallboards to provide asbestos compliance services and an urgent response following a fire incident at their facility. The fire posed a potential asbestos contamination risk in critical production areas at a time when nationwide supply chains were already under severe strain.
With the plant downtime threatening major supply shortages, our team mobilised immediately and worked around the clock on 24-hour shifts to deliver rapid assessments, testing, and clearance.
Scope
- Conducting immediate asbestos risk assessments post-fire to identify any hazards.
- Implementing emergency air monitoring to verify airborne fibre concentrations remained within safe limits.
- Performing clearance inspections to allow safe reoccupation and restart of production.
- Advising on compliance measures to ensure WorkSafe NZ requirements were fully met.
Outcome
Through rapid mobilisation, continuous operations, and precise technical execution, Aerem enabled Winstone Wallboards to minimise downtime and resume production quickly. This urgent response not only protected worker health but also helped prevent further disruption to New Zealand’s construction material supply during a critical period.
