Aerem is a family & Pasifika island run business based in Auckland. Our heritage makes us the only Pasifika Island owned hazardous substances consultancy within New Zealand. Aerem specialises in Occupational/Biological Hygiene Assessments and Asbestos Consultancy/Testing Services across the North Island.
Aerem as a concept started during the first COVID lockdown. The managing director Julie Saia made a quick spontaneous decision to change the direction of her family’s life and decided to go self employed with the aim of developing a progressive environmental consultancy and laboratory.

Ben Alford – Director/Principal Consultant
Ben Alford is a qualified Environmental Scientist, Licensed Asbestos Assessor, and TNZOH’s Hygienist. Ben is the Principal Consultant of Aerem. Ben has over ten years of experience within the environmental industry, working within the UK market and New Zealand.

Julie Saia – Managing Director/Environmental Scientist
Julie Saia is a qualified environmental scientist who is the managing director of Aerem. She has over nine years of experience as a laboratory analyst, an environmental consultant, and a coordinator. Julie has specialised skills in multiple labs, disciplines, Environmental Consultancy, and Asbestos/Project Coordination.

Jane Sharma – Office Manager and Laboratory Analyst
Jane Sharma is an enthusiastic, positive person who has a background in finance and extensive administration experience. Jane will be and is our ‘go-to lady’ at Aerem assisting the site team on their day-to-day activities. She is also assisting the Aerem team with the preparation of samples and filing internal documentation.
With her passion for the environment and exceptional organisational skills, Jane prides herself on her attention to detail while retaining her happy, bubbly attitude and great sense of humour.

Nigel Gilbert – Operations Manager
Nigel brings more than 14 years of experience in managing, removing asbestos, and demolition within the heavy industry sector. His journey through the industry has seen him advance from roles as a removalist and demolition worker to positions of supervisor, project manager, and currently, operations manager. His enthusiasm for the trade is shown in all he undertakes. He is always ready to share his knowledge and provide advice and support whenever possible. He holds a B-class supervisor certification for asbestos, a certification in first-line management, and a variety of other professional qualifications relevant to the industry.
