Aerem Environmental was engaged by March Cato to provide end-to-end asbestos and contaminated land services at a development site on Captain Springs Road, Auckland.
Project Overview
Following the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle, Aerem Environmental was mobilised to support recovery efforts in the Auckland and Northland regions. Severe weather caused significant property damage, flooding, and structural compromise, heightening the risk of asbestos and mould hazards in residential, commercial, and public buildings.
Scope
- Completed more than 800 assessments across multiple sites.
- Conducted urgent asbestos surveys to identify and control ACM hazards prior to clean-up and repair works.
- Performed four-stage clearance inspections to certify safe reoccupation.
- Delivered mould inspections and remediation recommendations for flood-damaged properties.
- Carried out air monitoring to ensure airborne fibre and spore levels were within safe limits.
Outcome
Aerem’s rapid mobilisation, scalable resources, and technical expertise played a critical role in protecting workers and communities during the clean-up and rebuild phases. The project was delivered under challenging conditions, with tight deadlines and close coordination with emergency management, local councils, and insurance stakeholders.
