Director / Principal Consultant
Ben Alford
Ben is the Director of Aerem, a qualified Environmental Scientist, WorkSafe NZ–Licensed Asbestos Assessor, TNZOH Hygienist, IOSH-certified health and safety professional, and holds both OHTAtech and OHTech certifications. With over 15 years’ experience across New Zealand and the UK, he works at the intersection of environmental science and occupational hygiene, helping clients make clear, defensible, risk-based decisions.
Ben is a trusted specialist in asbestos risk management, contaminated land assessment, and occupational hygiene consulting, with a proven track record delivering complex projects in commercial, infrastructure, industrial, and heritage environments. His work spans strategic risk planning, compliance reviews, exposure assessment, and the development of practical, site-ready control measures.
As Director, Ben combines technical depth with straightforward, no-nonsense advice. He oversees Aerem’s operations, quality systems, and client partnerships, ensuring every project is delivered with a focus on worker health, cultural awareness, and regulatory excellence.
Ben is a member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), an Associate of the Faculty of Asbestos Assessment and Management (AFAAM), and an active member of the New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society (NZOHS). He is committed to lifting standards across the industry, not just meeting them.
MANAGING DIRECTOR & Quality Manager
Julie Saia
Julie Saia is the Managing Director of Aerem and a highly respected professional in asbestos, environmental consulting, and occupational hygiene. Of Samoan and wider Pasifika heritage, Julie is recognised as one of the first known occupational hygienists from Samoa, bringing vital representation and a strong cultural lens to the industry.
With over nine years’ experience as a laboratory analyst, environmental consultant, and project coordinator, she brings a sharp mix of technical expertise and practical leadership to Aerem. Julie is a WorkSafe NZ–Licensed Asbestos Assessor and holds OHTAtech and OHTech occupational hygiene qualifications.
Julie leads Aerem’s laboratory operations as a Key Technical Person (KTP), overseeing asbestos bulk analysis and fibre counting in line with industry best practice and rigorous quality systems. A specialist in quality management and auditing, she is heavily involved in developing, implementing, and reviewing Aerem’s management systems, internal audits, external assessments, and continuous improvement programmes.
As Managing Director, Julie drives Aerem’s strategic direction while remaining closely involved in technical delivery, client relationships, and high-risk project oversight. Her commitment to compliance, quality, and cultural integrity underpins Aerem’s mission to deliver safe, expert-led environmental solutions across Aotearoa.
Julie is also deeply passionate about lifting capability across Pasifika nations. She is actively focused on upskilling Pasifika workers and professionals in occupational hygiene and environmental practice, helping ensure that Pacific communities are not just consulted, but equipped and represented in the decision-making that affects their health and environments.
Office Manager and Lab KTP
Jane Sharma
Jane Sharma is the go-to person at Aerem, serving as our Office Manager and a key support figure for both the site team and laboratory operations. With qualifications in BOHS IP402 (Asbestos Surveying and Sampling) and IP404 (Air Monitoring and Clearance Testing), Jane brings a strong technical foundation to her administrative and coordination role.
Jane manages all internal documentation, project logistics, and chain-of-custody tracking, ensuring that every Aerem project runs smoothly behind the scenes. Her understanding of both field requirements and compliance standards allows her to bridge the gap between operational delivery and quality assurance.
Reliable, organised, and technically trained, Jane plays a vital role in keeping our asbestos services efficient, compliant, and client-ready.

Janice Andrews
Janice Andrews is the Operations Manager at Aerem, where she leads the coordination and delivery of asbestos, hazardous materials, and occupational hygiene services across New Zealand. She is a WorkSafe NZ–Licensed Asbestos Assessor, a BOHS IP402-qualified Asbestos Surveyor, and holds the BOHS M200 qualification in Occupational Hygiene Management.
With extensive experience in both field operations and technical consultancy, Janice combines regulatory expertise with practical site management to ensure Aerem projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with WorkSafe NZ standards. Her occupational hygiene background brings added value to projects involving complex risk environments, including asbestos exposure, air monitoring, and contamination management.
Janice plays a critical role in client liaison, operational oversight, and quality assurance, making her a trusted leader in both the asbestos and occupational hygiene sectors.

Kieran Hunt
Kieran Hunt is Aerem’s Laboratory Manager, overseeing all asbestos bulk material and fibre analysis services. With deep technical expertise and a strong compliance focus, Kieran ensures all laboratory operations meet rigorous quality standards for accuracy, traceability, and regulatory alignment.
Kieran is also a BOHS IP402-qualified Asbestos Surveyor and IP404-certified Clearance Analyst, giving him a well-rounded understanding of both laboratory and site-based asbestos risk assessment. His dual qualifications support seamless integration between on-site inspections, sample collection, and laboratory reporting, ensuring reliable, end-to-end asbestos analysis.
Kieran plays a key role in maintaining Aerem’s chain-of-custody protocols, internal quality assurance, and IANZ-accredited partner relationships, delivering fast, defensible results our clients can trust.

AC Godinet
AC Godinet is Aerem’s Technical Lead for Asbestos Surveying and Licensed Clearance Inspections, bringing extensive experience across complex and high-risk environments. He is a WorkSafe NZ–Licensed Asbestos Assessor and holds BOHS IP402 (Surveying and Sampling of Asbestos) and IP404 (Air Monitoring and Clearance Testing) qualifications.
AC is known for his meticulous approach to asbestos risk assessment, hazardous materials surveying, and compliance-driven project delivery. His dual expertise in both consulting and hands-on fieldwork ensures all asbestos clearance and survey work meets the highest standards of technical integrity and WorkSafe compliance.

Johnny Saia
Johnny is a highly qualified Hazardous Materials Consultant and Asbestos Surveyor, holding both BOHS IP404 (Air Monitoring & Clearance) and IP402 (Surveying and Sampling of Asbestos) certifications. With extensive field experience, he is also a Licensed Asbestos Supervisor, bringing hands-on expertise in the safe and compliant removal of asbestos-containing materials.
Johnny’s combined knowledge of asbestos surveying, fibre counting, air monitoring, and licensed removal supervision makes him an invaluable asset on both high-risk and complex remediation projects. His attention to regulatory detail and practical site knowledge ensures that projects are managed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with WorkSafe NZ requirements.

Chantel Ah Him
Chantel Ah Him is a key member of the Aerem team, working full time as an Asbestos Bulk and Fibre Counting Analyst as well as an Operations Administrator. She plays a central role in the quality management of Aerem’s laboratory, helping to implement and maintain QA/QC procedures, checking results, maintaining calibration and maintenance records, and ensuring all analysis is carried out in line with standard operating procedures and accreditation requirements. Her thorough approach to documentation, chain-of-custody control, and data integrity helps ensure that every result issued by the lab is defensible and audit-ready.
In addition to her laboratory responsibilities, Chantel is an IP404-qualified asbestos consultant and regularly supports Aerem’s site work. She assists with air monitoring and sampling programmes, including background, leak, reassurance and four-stage clearance testing, and applies recognised sampling methods to ensure representative, high-quality data for clients. Her ability to move seamlessly between the lab and the field – combining practical air monitoring skills with a strong quality focus – makes her a valuable link between Aerem’s operational and technical functions.

Emma Pouvi
Emma Pouvi is a Trainee Hazmat Consultant and Site Technician at Aerem, currently developing her skills in asbestos surveying, mould assessments, and hazardous materials consulting.
Emma supports the team with on-site inspections, sample collection, and laboratory processing for both bulk materials and airborne fibre analysis. She is actively involved in fieldwork preparation, documentation, and project logistics, gaining hands-on experience under the guidance of Aerem’s licensed assessors and occupational hygienists.
With a growing interest in environmental health and compliance, Emma is building a strong foundation to become a qualified hazmat professional and a trusted member of Aerem’s technical field team.
